This is a really cute little imitation Santa stocking to hang on your tree, or give to someone as a gift with a tiny present inside.
Needles – your favourite sock needles will be fine as tension isn’t that critical here. I used 2.75mm.
Yarn – use tiny leftovers from your stash! I used some white feather-like yarn, and some 4ply red crepe wool.
Cuff:
Cast on 24 stitches in white feathers-type wool. Join to knit in the round. Knit until work measures 2.5cm.
Leg:
Change to red and knit for 2cm. Divide stitches evenly for heel, and work heel flap on 12 stitches.
Heel flap:
Round 1: sl1, k to end, turn
Round 2: sl1, p to end, turn
Repeat these 2 rounds 2 more times. (6 rows total for heel), ending on a wrong side row
Heel Turn:
Row 1: sl1, k6, ssk, k1, turn
Row 2: sl1, p3, p2tog, p1, turn
Row 3: sl1, k4, ssk, k1, turn
Row 4: sl1, p5, p2tog, p1, turn
Row 5: sl1, k7
Gusset:
Pick up 4 stitches from side of heel; knit across front 12 stitches; pick up 4 stitches from other side of heel; knit 8 sole stitches (28)
Round 1: k1, ssk, k14, k2tog, k9
Round 2: k
Round 3: ssk, k14, k2tog, k8
Next: knit straight for 2 cm
Toe:
Adjust stitch arrangement so there are 12 stitches for the top and bottom on two needles.
Round 1: k1, ssk, k to last 3 st on needle, k2tog, k1. Repeat for other needle.
Round 2: k
Repeat these 2 rounds until 4 stitches remain on each needle (8 total).
Remove needles, and draw up thread tightly through stitches.
Block if desired. Attach a piece of silver embroidery thread to the top corner and hang from your Christmas tree. Make lots more!
You may use this pattern to make things to sell at craft fairs. It would be nice if you say they are a www.blendyknits.com design. I am happy for this pattern to be printed or featured somewhere, but please email me first (I’ll say yes, but just want to know about it!) blendy@blendy.co.nz
