Flagstaff Alpacas & Doe Arnot
I haven’t had the pleasure of knitting with alpaca yarn before, and it amazes me how soft it is. I think I’d better start adding some to my stash for knitting shawls, baby garments and socks, especially considering its hypoallergenic qualities.Flagstaff Alpacas in Dunedin have submitted some incredibly generous 4ply samples for the NZ Yarn Sampler – they are 40g each – that’s enough to knit something fairly decent to try it out before you fall in love and buy more! There are also three to-die-for colourways that have been hand dyed by Doe Arnot from the Oamaru Textile Emporium. Rosehip (which is a blend of colours that exactly represents a bowl of rosehips), Painted Lake (a delightful blend of turquoise and greens), and Moonshine (this is a whimsical blend of bright yellows and grey).
The alpaca fleece comes from the white and light cream alpacas of Flagstaff Alpacas, who then skirts, colour confirms and sorts the fleece before it is spun commercially at QualitYarns, Milton, Otago.
These 100% alpaca 4ply yarns look and feel so delicious, that you won’t be able to resist buying extra in the full size 100g – and at only around $26, that is an absolute bargain so check out the colour range right now! Visit www.flagstaffalpacas.co.nz for the selection, and also check out Doe Arnot’s blog which details how the yarn is created, about alpacas and also shows off the amazing creations she’s done!
